After speaking with Trump, Kanye West pushes back his presidential run to 2024

After US president-elect Donald Trump spoke with Kanye West during their intimate meeting at Trump Tower today, it seems that West has—out of courtesy, respect, or perhaps, intimidation—decided to push back his burgeoning presidential campaign by four years.

“I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future president if we truly want change,” the rapper announced on Twitter this afternoon, followed by another tweet that simply read:

That, of course, means that West won’t be running against Trump’s re-election campaign in 2020. West also provided a bit of insight into the topics of the pair’s conversation (Trump, when asked by reporters earlier today, said the two simply discussed “life”).

I wanted to meet with Trump today to discuss multicultural issues.

These issues included bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago.

No small amount of fury/shock/dismay/perplexity did West’s postponement announcement provoke. The “#2024” tweet alone received 75,000—and counting—likes and retweets within a single hour and “Kanye” has been trending on Twitter all day.

@kanyewest YOU BACKED OUT OF 2020 CAUSE MAN LIKE TRUMP BULLIED YOU????

We at Quartz, who have diligently been following Yeezy since West suggested he would run for president, will be updating our coverage accordingly.
